Dementia and Mental Health Support

Our Dementia and Mental Health Support service is designed to provide compassionate, person-centred care for individuals living with dementia or mental health conditions.
Our carers receive specialist training to understand, respond to, and support the unique needs of each individual — promoting safety, dignity, and emotional wellbeing at every stage.

What’s Included:

1. Specialist Dementia and Mental Health Training for Carers

  • Carers are trained to understand different types and stages of dementia, such as Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia.
  • Training also covers mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.
  • Carers learn to respond calmly and effectively to confusion, mood changes, or challenging behaviour.
  • They use communication techniques focused on reassurance, patience, and validation rather than confrontation.

2. Emotional, Cognitive, and Social Support

  • Provide companionship to reduce loneliness and isolation.
  • Encourage memory-stimulating and confidence-building activities such as looking through photos, listening to music, or gentle exercise.
  • Use reminiscence therapy and sensory stimulation to enhance wellbeing and connection.
  • Support participation in community activities, day centres, or local events where appropriate.

3. Monitoring and Communication

  • Observe and report any changes in mood, memory, or behaviour to family members and healthcare professionals.
  • Assist with appointments and ongoing mental health or dementia reviews.
  • Collaborate with district nurses, occupational therapists, and community mental health teams to ensure joined-up care.

4. Support for Families and Carers

  • Provide respite care so family members can take well-deserved breaks and recharge.
  • Offer signposting and information to help relatives better understand dementia or mental health conditions.
  • Deliver emotional support, reassurance, and practical guidance during challenging times.
  • Help coordinate between health and social care services to ensure consistent, high-quality support.

5. Promoting Dignity, Respect, and Inclusion

  • All care is provided with kindness, patience, and full respect for the individual’s rights and preferences.
  • Encourage and support people to make their own choices wherever possible, fostering independence and self-esteem.
  • Promote an inclusive, non-judgmental environment that challenges stigma around dementia and mental health conditions.

Benefits Include:

  • Specialist carers who understand dementia and mental health challenges.
  • Improved emotional wellbeing and reduced isolation for clients.
  • Personalised, consistent support that adapts to changing needs.
  • Peace of mind for families through regular communication and reassurance.
  • Care that upholds dignity, respect, and inclusion at all times.

We believe that everyone deserves to be treated with understanding, patience, and compassion.
Our Dementia and Mental Health Support service focuses on maintaining comfort, connection, and quality of life — for both the individual and their loved ones.
